JSIS Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
Mission
The JSIS PTSA’s mission is to support the staff and families of the school community to ensure the success of JSIS’s vision. We strive to create a culturally diverse community of life-long learners who demonstrate advanced skills in communication, international language and technology.
What does the PTSA ask of the Parents?
- Membership: Become a member! PTSA dues support our school and legislative efforts.
- Volunteer: Think about what kind of volunteer you would like to be and contact Julie Pellegrino Gilbert to see how we can best utilize your talents. There’s a broad variety of volunteer needs – ranging from event chairs to day-of help. We hope you will spend at least 10 hours of your time this school year volunteering for PTSA events. We need each parent’s time to ensure the success of our school!
- Ideas: Provide input on how the PTSA can better support the school community.
What does the PTSA do?
The PTSA sponsors more than 15 school community building events that are fun for the whole family. We organize exciting afterschool programs, run various fundraisers to provide financial support to enhance the students’ curriculum, and offer programs to support school families in need.
How does the PTSA use its funds?
- Teacher Grants and Stipends: Provide financial support for each teacher’s individual curriculum enhancement needs and larger expenses for special projects/workshops and/or outside performers/educators for the K-2 and 3-5 grades as a whole.
- International Arts Consortium: Funding for Artist in Residence, ceramics, music, Reading is Fun and Poetry Aloud programs.
- All-School Events: Pays for school buses to all field trips – estimated at $2,000 in 2010. School community events including Monster Mash, Science Fair, La Fiesta Latina, Japan Night, Literacy night and 10 + other creative and fun events.
- Parent Events: First day doughnuts and weekly Friday coffee hour.
- Student Directory: Creation and distribution of contact information for students and their parents to all the JSIS families.
- Annual Fund: Provide financial support for the marketing needs of the Annual Fund drive.
- Scholarships: Provide families in need with financial support for field trips and after school programs.
- And many other programs!
